State of the NFC East Week 13

One of the most contested NFL division races this season. It is the only division in the NFL where each team (record wise) has an incredible chance to win the division. Let's take an in-depth look at the current NFC East standings, chances to win the division, and the projected results by the hosts of the Broadstreet Boys Podcast https://open.spotify.com/show/5L95FyiDIAhJdhryNlZNyu?si=4P-5UU0JQUi26PpyhyUwFg

NFC East Standings

(1st place in the division gets the 4th seed in the NFC playoffs and a home playoff game)

  1. Giants: 4-7

  2. Washington: 4-7

  3. Eagles: 3-7-1

  4. Cowboys: 3-8

Team Breakdowns:

vs. Cleveland (1:00pm) FOX

Why the Giants will win the division:

The New York Football Giants are going to win the NFC East and there isn't much doubt. This team looks like it has finally found its leader in Joe Judge and Daniel Jones. This team is putting it together, and a playoff game would give them invaluable experience moving forward. Washington looked good against Dallas, but then again it's the Cowboys... The huge turning point for this team was the signature win against Philadelphia in Week 10, the first time since 2016 that had been accomplished. This team has momentum.

Why the Giants won't win the division:

The injury to Daniel Jones takes a week or two longer than expected to heal and someone else in the division takes control and wins an unexpected game. I see that as being the only roadblock to the NFC East title for the Giants. That scenario is highly unlikely because it will either have to be Philadelphia striking gold somehow (not gonna happen) or the Washington Football Team going on a run.

Broadstreet Boys Remaining Schedule Prediction as of Week 12:

Week 13: Seahawks (L) Record: 4-8

Week 14: Cardinals (L) Record: 4-9

Week 15: Browns (W) Record: 5-9

Week 16: Ravens (L) Record: 5-10

Week 17: Cowboys (W) Record: 6-10

Final Record Prediction:

6-10 (1st in NFC East)

Washington Football Team

Next 3 games:

@ Pittsburgh (5:00pm) Who Knows

@ San Francisco (4:25pm) FOX

vs. Seattle (1:00pm) FOX

Why the Football Team will win the division:

Alex Smith will sneak out a win against the 49ers, beat the Panthers, and beat the Eagles in week 17. and will win the final two games and ultimately clinch against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. If Daniel Jones' injury takes a week or two more than predicted they will be in a decent spot to win this division. Still unrealistic, but a week 17 win against Philadelphia should give them at least a share of second place in the NFC East.

Why the Football Team won't win the division:

Their remaining schedule is just too difficult to come close to predicting a division win. The next three games are against the Steelers, 49ers, and the Seahawks. These three teams have a combined record of 23-9. And that includes the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers. Alex Smith has a great comeback story but it ultimately won't be enough.

Broadstreet Boys Remaining Schedule Prediction as of Week 12:

Week 13: Steelers (L) Record: 4-8

Week 14: 49ers (L) Record: 4-19

Week 15: Seahawks (L) Record: 4-10

Week 16: Panthers (L) Record: 4-11

Week 17: Eagles (L) Record: 4-12

Final Record Prediction:

4-12 (4th in NFC East)

Philadelphia Eagles

Next 3 games:

@ Green Bay (4:25pm) CBS

vs. New Orleans (4:25pm) FOX

@ Arizona (4:05pm) FOX

Why the Cowboys will win the division:

Lightning strikes and the whole team develops super powers. Kidding, (but please that would be nice). Its tough to even come up with a reason that this could remotely work out. In 2019 they sprung an upset against the Packers, maybe if it happens again? The most likely scenario is going to be that Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman or some combo are fired in the last two weeks of the season. Dallas and Washington are left on the schedule, that could be two wins, but this team has to turn around before then.

Why the Cowboys won't win the division:

The New York Giants have too much momentum and the Eagles have too much turmoil. Wentz is having the worst season of any QB in the NFL and it won't end. Get ready for an offseason of QB controversy and a possible new GM or HC.

Broadstreet Boys Remaining Schedule Prediction as of Week 12:

Week 13: Packers (L) Record: 3-8-1

Week 14: Saints (L) Record: 3-9-1

Week 15: Cardinals (L) Record: 3-10-1

Week 16: Cowboys (W) Record: 4-10-1

Week 17: Washington (W) Record: 5-10-1

Final Record Prediction:

5-10-1 (2nd in NFC East)

Next 3 games:

@ Baltimore (8:05pm) FOX & NFL Network

@ Cincinnati (1:00pm) FOX

vs. San Francisco (8:20pm) NBC

Why the Cowboys will win the division:

The Cowboys lack talent, but they have an easy schedule. If Andy Dalton and co. can develop some chemistry this team has a chance. Baltimore is a tough go, but the rest of the schedule (Bengals, 49ers, Eagles, Giants) is as easy as it gets. There's a decent chance this division comes down to a week 17 matchup between the Giants and the Cowboys. If the Cowboys win that game they win the division. Any hope starts with Dalton playing well. Ben DiNucci won't win this division.

Why the Cowboys won't win the division:

They got embarrassed by the Football Team on Thanksgiving in Jerry World. This team was doomed when they lost Dak Prescott in week 5; this team never recuperates and they lose the division. Joe Judge is going to have the New York Giants prepared for that Week 17 matchup for the division. We will have to wait and see what Mike McCarthy can do in his second season as HC in Dallas. Until then, Dallas comes in either 2nd or 3rd.

Broadstreet Boys Remaining Schedule Prediction as of Week 12:

Week 13: Ravens (L) Record: 3-9

Week 14: Bengals (W) Record: 4-9

Week 15: 49ers (L) Record: 4-10

Week 16: Eagles (L) Record: 4-11

Week 17: Giants (L) Record: 4-12

Final Record Prediction:

4-12 (3rd in NFC East)
