Philly Happenings

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

As a lifelong Eagles fan, I tend to agree with some of the recent free-agency moves that they have made regarding some of their signings. The defense needed a massive upgrade. I cannot even remember the last time that the Eagles had a respectable secondary. Maybe it was back in the days of Brian Dawkins…

However, recent deals struck with strong defensive players by Howie Roseman gives me hope. Under the direction of Roseman, there has been a concerted effort this offseason to improve the secondary of this Eagles team. Here are some of the notable moves and some thoughts on some of them:

Jalen Mills:

• Deal: One year up to $5 million

• Thoughts:

I love this signing. Period. It’s often discussed in the same setting as the Eagles letting Malcolm Jenkins go. However this move makes so much sense especially with transitioning Mills to safety. He knows the defense and has said the Eagles are the only team that wanted him to transition.

Nickell Robey-Coleman:

• Deal: One year ($$$ unspecified)

• Thoughts:

Everyone keeps hating on this deal and I definitely feel as if this is one of those deals in which we just have to wait and see what happens come the season. Robey-Coleman regressed a bit last year but I just played with him on Madden the other night and the talent is there (because Madden is a great equalizer). We all know Madden ratings are so accurate, right?

Nate Sudfeld:

• Deal: One year deal

• Thoughts:

A backup QB who knows the system is always a good piece to have within an offense. I only worry about whether Sudfeld can come in and lead the team should Wentz go down. However, I don’t even want to think about that so let’s end this on a happy note.

There you go, some thoughts on 3 Eagles signings. Stay tuned here as the offseason progresses and we get to the draft. Expect a draft preview soon as always stay safe and hopefully football will be here soon.
