Pats Place O-Lineman Jermaine Eluemunor on IR
The Patriots have placed offensive lineman Jermain Eluemunor on IR. Under the new league rules, Eluemenor is eligible to come off of IR after a 3 game minimum.
Eluemenor has been surprisingly good for the Patriots through 3 games. Eleumenor played upwards of 70% of offensive snaps in each of the first 3 games before leaving last week’s loss versus Denver after only 12 snaps with an ankle injury. It’s tough to judge how long a player will miss with an injury based on the eye test, but Eluemenor’s injury looked somewhat severe. I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses more than 3 games.
The injury comes at a tough time for the Patriots. The offensive line was already without two of their best players: Joe Thuney and Shaq Mason. The line resembled a game of musical chairs against Denver. Starting left guard Joe Thuney was forced to play center for an injured David Andrews. Rookie sensation Michael Onwenu played left guard, right guard, and right tackle last week. Three positions in one week is a lot to handle for a rookie, especially since Onwenu only played guard in college. Second-year guard Hjalte Froholdt saw his first NFL action at right guard. Rookie Justin Herron was forced to play at both left and right tackle during the game when fellow offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn was kicked inside. Cam Newton was under pressure all game.
Luckily, the Patriots had both Shaq Mason and David Andrews back on the practice field today. If both can play in the next game, you will likely see Wynn at LT, Thuney at LG, David Andrews at C, Michael Onwenu at RG, and Justin Herron at RT.
